Dare to Dream!
After a delay of almost a year, and with many ups and downs along the way, the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics is finally about to begin. It takes a huge amount of talent, and no doubt more than a little luck, to become an Olympic athlete. But what seems impossible can indeed happen.

A boy from the small town of Omaezaki, in Shizuoka Prefecture, a boy named Shota Iizuka, can dream of becoming one of the fastest runners in the world. And the world can watch, as they did for the Rio Olympics in 2016, and see him and three other young Japanese men compete in the 4x100 relay, compete against legends like Usain Bolt, and achieve the impossible by capturing the silver medal. Of course achieving that dream involved years of practice and hard work.

There is never an easy road to success. But the first step is to have the courage to have the dream. With that in mind, the motto for the English Café this past month has been “Dare to Dream.” Of course this slogan is not only for our students who push themselves to succeed in sports like rhythmic gymnastics or tennis or dance. It is true for any dream in life. Our girls have academic dreams, family dreams, life dreams. Recently in the JHS second year classes, students have been writing about their career dreams and then making mini-presentations in front of the class about them. For as Shota Iizuka himself said, daring to dream is only the first step. The second step, a very important step, is to tell others about your dream. Here at Eiwa we wish our students all the best on their paths to fulfilling their dreams and are there to support them on their exciting journeys ahead!
