Happy Easter!
I’d like to wish everyone a belated happy Easter! For Christians around the world, Easter is a very important religious holiday. It marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, just as Christmas marks his birth. But I think even non-Christians can find meaning in the celebration and message of Easter.
Easter is strongly linked to spring, and to the message of rebirth or new beginnings. Winter can be a very long and dark season, particularly in northern European countries. It is hard on not only the body but also the mind. But just when you are ready to give up, and feel that life is too tough, spring arrives. Green leaves start to appear on brown trees, flowers poke out of the ground, the days grow longer, the temperatures become warmer… In short, life begins again. Hope and joy are once again possible.
Here at Eiwa we celebrated Easter in various ways. On Saturday, April 15, Reverend Ihara from Fujikawa Church came and talked about the Easter message of hope.
Students and teachers had also collected money (called an ‘offering’) which will be donated to various old-age homes and other institutions in the Shizuoka area.
On Friday, students had helped to make boiled, decorated eggs which were then given to all the new students on Saturday. And, of course, the English café has been festively decorated for Easter all this past week.
Happy Easter everyone!
