What’s important to our students?
I think one of the best things about English class is that it gives the students a chance to share the things that are important to them with other people. We have the chance in our English classes to let the students tell others about their experiences and express their opinions to an extent that is perhaps difficult with some other subjects. Active, student-centered learning like this is what education is all about!

Recently in the third-year junior high school classes, students have been talking and writing about their school trip to Nara and Kyoto. It has been lots of fun hearing about their stories, especially about the deer in Nara Park! This was both an enjoyable and a scary experience for many students, and something that they will remember for a long time. It rained the second day, but, amazingly, no one complained about the weather. They really seemed to have a wonderful trip.
By contrast, the second-year junior high students have been telling others about their hometowns. What is it famous for? What are some good festivals, food, and places to visit? Although Eiwa is in Shizuoka, there are many students who come from other cities such as Fuji, Shimada and Yaizu. The students enjoy the chance to tell others about where they live, and to learn about other places in Shizuoka prefecture.
By connecting students to what’s important to them, and by sharing this information with others, learning is both meaningful and fun. I love our English classes!
