Opening Ceremony 2020
Due to the current coronavirus situation, we have been unable to host events at school so far this year. However, on Monday, May 11th 2020, we were able to hold the welcome ceremony for the new Junior and Senior high first graders.
Prior to the ceremony starting, many precautions were taken to ensure the safety of both the students and parents who attended. All guests were asked to wear masks, the windows were opened to allow fresh air to enter the chapel and everyone was asked to sit at least one metre apart.
The ceremony began with this year’s hymn, number 270, My Faith it is an Oaken Staff. Then, Mr Kirihara read from Luke, chapter ten, verses twenty-five to twenty-eight.

Following the hymn and bible readings, the names of the new students were read by their new homeroom teachers. Short speeches were also given by selected students.
The Principal, Mr Ohashi, then gave a speech to the students. The speech explained to the students that life is full of journeys and that the start of a new school year is the start of a very important journey. The start may have been delayed but students can be reassured that they have everything they need to complete the journey.
Finally, before the end of the ceremony, Ms Fukui gave a short performance on the school’s pipe organ.

This year’s opening ceremony may have been different from previous years but the students and their parents were able to enjoy this special day. I am looking forward to accompanying our new students on their journey and wish them every success in their time at Shizuoka Eiwa.
