Junior High English Recitation Contest
The year has only just started but we have already held one of our big school events. On April 21st students in the Junior High School took part in the annual Shizuoka Eiwa Junior High English Contest.
In this contest, students in the second and third grade must each give a speech in front of all of the other Junior High students in the chapel. Students in the second grade read the speech, Over The Horizon and students in the third grade read the speech, The Travelling Bear. At the end of the last school year, mini-contests were held in each class to decide class representatives. Sixteen students were selected to take part in the main contest, eight from each grade.
In the contest, students were judged on their pronunciation, prosody, memorisation and gestures. I was greatly impressed by the effort of the students from both grades. Choosing the winners was extremely difficult but, in the end, we choose to give three prizes to students in the third grade and three prizes to students in the second grade. We also selected five students to who will have the chance to represent the school in the Shizuoka City Junior High English Speech Contest this September.
At a recent ceremony, the Principal awarded the prizes to the students who were lucky enough to win prizes. Although we could only give prizes to six students, I would like to say well done to all of those students who took part. You all did a great job! I would also like to thank our two MCs who both did a marvellous job.

As the year continues, I am sure we will have more speech contest news with the upcoming City, Prefectural and in-School contests to be held in September and October. Check back here for more news in the future.
