カナダ・ビクトリア 留学だより 10月
9月からカナダのビクトリアに10ヶ月留学している高校2年生から、お便りが届きました。
こんにちはSakiです！カナダは今紅葉がとても綺麗な季節になってきました。気温は10℃を下回ることも多く、雨も増えてきたので夜などは特に冷え込むようになってきました。私の家の周りには野生のシカやリス、ウサギなどがたくさんいて帰り道に見かけることも日常のようになってきました。
Hi, I’m Saki! Canada is entering a season when the autumn colors are especially beautiful. The temperature often drops below 10°C, and rain is increasing, so it gets especially chilly at night. Around my home, there are lots of wild deer, squirrels, and rabbits, and seeing them on my way home has become almost a daily thing.
カナダでは10月の第二月曜日はThanksgiving Dayと言う感謝の日があります。今では親族や家族、友人を囲んで、食事や会話を楽しむ日となっていますが元々はヨーロッパで始まり神に収穫の恵みや日常生活の幸福に感謝する日です。当日は私も午前中から買い物に行き、ディナーのためにファミリーと一緒に1日かけて料理をつくりました。ご飯は七面鳥の丸焼き、スタッフィング、マッシュドポテト、クランベリーソース、パンプキンパイなどが定番です。私はホストファミリーや親戚と共に20人ほどで食事をし、ゲームやお話をしてとても楽しい時間を過ごすことが出来ました。
Canada has Thanksgiving Day on the second Monday of October. Nowadays it's a day to gather with relatives, family, and friends, enjoying meals and conversations, but it originally started in Europe as a day to give thanks for the harvest's blessings and for the happiness of daily life. On that day, I went shopping in the morning and spent the whole day cooking with my family for the dinner. The meal included a roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. I shared the meal with about 20 people - my host family and relatives - and we had a wonderful time playing games and talking together.

そして今月は留学生のイベントでバンクーバーに行きホッケーを見てきました。私は初めてホッケーをみましたが、会場の盛り上がりがとてもすごくライブのような感覚でした。ホッケーをみた後は友達と美術館に行ったり、ショッピングをしたりして観光を楽しみました。他の国の子ともたくさん話すことができ、とても楽しかったです。
I went to Vancouver this month for an international student event and watched hockey. It was my first time watching hockey, and the atmosphere at the arena was amazing - like a live concert. After watching the game, I went to a museum with my friends and did some shopping, enjoying sightseeing. I also had lots of conversations with students from other countries, and it was a great time.
